Wow, that is the opposite of true. Linux is anything but simple. Want to install some software but the Ubuntu repo has an outdated package? Better find the URL of the deb and pull with wget. Then make sure you set up the configuration correctly. Then give it correct execution rights. Every bit of software I download is a battle.
Try CentOS. And with out of the way, even as a UNIX admin, I really can’t really disagree. I’ve certainly spent a lot of time cursing the process of performing tasks. Don’t even get me started on compiling kernels to support newer hardware /drivers.
In my opinion, Linux is a fine operating system if you need to do things that windows or mac don’t do well, like clustering, or as an amazing server operating system. It also runs on damn near anything. However, its strengths aren’t really in the ease of use department. Information and tutorials are often hit or miss as well. It makes my job as a not-know-it-all UNIX admin a living hell sometimes.
I use it in my servers, I use it as my network storage host, I use it at work, I use it on my phone, but I still can’t use it as a proper home OS replacement.
